Series of Problems in the Development of the 5G Network in Indonesia

Executive Director of the Indonesia ICT Institute, Heru Sutadi, stated that there are two obstacles to developing the 5G network in Indonesia. He said two obstacles were related to the frequency spectrum and standardization.

"There are two obstacles, firstly there is frequency spectrum allocation and secondly there is standardization," Heru told CNNIndonesia.com, Tuesday (6/4).

"So this must be focused and immediately there is an effort to release it considering that there is currently a use on that frequency," he said.

Heru said that Indonesia should follow ITu in terms of standardization. He asked the government not to make its own standards.

"Because we have failed when we adopt WiMax with different standards," said Heru.

On the other hand, Heru on the Job Creation Law helps because there is a discussion about Analog Switch Off (ASO), which is maximum completed on November 2, 2022. So that the frequency will also be ready when used.

Member of the Wantiknas Garuda Executive Team, Sugardo, stated that there was a fundamental mistake about 5G, namely the perception that the network deployment should be as large as 3G or 4G. He considered that this happened not only among the common people, but also among the policy-making strata.

The 5G platform is also considered to be promising a very short latency time, around 4 ms or 5 times compared to 4G. It is complete, he said, dreaming of downloading a 1-hour-long film is only done in an instant.

"People then imagine that with a 5G cellphone in their hands, they can access the internet with a transmission speed of 20 Gbps or 20 times the 4G LTE that they are currently using," said Garuda.
