Measuring the readiness of the 5G network when 4G is not evenly distributed in RI

The 5G network revolution in Indonesia has never started. The development of the next generation network after 4G has yet to find a bright spot. In the midst of the swift flow of accelerated technology development, Indonesia still has to wait some more time to enjoy this fifth generation communication network.

Telecommunication observer Heru Sutadi assessed that currently the government cannot build a 5G network infrastructure because it is constrained by a frequency that cannot be prepared.

"The government is constrained by frequency. Because there are still no vacancies such as at 3.5GHz, 2.5 / 2.6GHz and 700 MHz," Heru told CNNIndonesia.com.

He further explained that even though the spread of 4G networks in Indonesia has not spread to remote parts of the archipelago, this is not an obstacle to developing 5G domestically.

He assessed that 5G can be immediately adopted without equal distribution of the 4G network throughout the archipelago. Because, he said, once 5G comes in, the 4G network will be replaced gradually.

Heru hopes that the government can immediately provide frequency space so that the 5G network can quickly build and develop in Indonesia. Because according to him, adopting 5G must have an ecosystem that must be prepared.

"We hope that this can soon be arranged or emptied to be used for 5G. But if you want this year you can start working on the 5G network, at the most next year. It depends on the government's discretion," said Heru.

On the consumer side, Heru assessed that currently many cellphone products are equipped with 5G networks. It's just that at this time there needs to be an adjustment of the frequency according to international use.

"So that BTS and cellphone products will be more economical," he said.

He hopes that the 5G network can be adopted immediately even though it has to prepare the ecosystem, frequency and standardization rules for implementing 5G.

In addition, Telecommunication Observer Nonot Harsoyo explained that currently there is a need for a study published to the public about the urgency of Indonesia's need for 5G technology.

Nonot said, there are several things that must be underlined in the development of the 5G network in Indonesia. Among other things, not to do a lot of imports so as not to affect Indonesia's foreign exchange.

"There are important things that need to be taken into consideration, such as not many imports so that the trade balance deficit is under control," said Nonot to CNNIndonesia.com in a written statement (8/4).
